I was in a group of five riders, headed east on Nelson Road. One rider was trailing which provided him with a clear and unimpeded view of the driver's actions. JH was riding to my left, otherwise the group was single file. We were traveling within the bike lane, with one rider probably on or close to the white line.

We heard a vehicle approach from behind traveling in our direction. Then we heard it rev its engine loudly and accelerate.

Though we were already in the bike lane we all reacted to the vehicle bearing down on us and instinctively moved to the right, toward the extreme edge of the pavement. A white pickup truck came speeding by and its mirror missed one rider by inches. The rider that was trailing about 100 feet behind said that the truck accelerated and moved toward us, and when we moved right, the driver turned further to the right, adjusting his trajectory, nearly striking one rider.

Every rider felt that the action was deliberate and intentional. We had done nothing to provoke the driver. We were traveling on a slight downhill, at about 30 mph (48 kph) at the time. I was able to get a look at the license plate, I think it was 163-DKJ. I am certain about the first three digits. I am uncertain about the last three letters, I believe those are the right letters but the order may be wrong.
